A symbol of the protestant church.
The Berlin cathedral was the church of the Hohenzollern family and was built as an answer to Saint Peter's Basilica in Rome. During the reign of emperor Wilhelm II, the cathedral was rebuilt in an Italian Renaissance style that was not well received by the population. After the Second World War, the restoration from 1975 to 1993 restored the older decorations.
The most recent mosaics in the dome were unveiled in 2002, while that same year the restored crypt of the Hohenzollern family was reopened to visitors.
